Wines, Vines & Burgundian Gastronomy according to Gaston Roupnel, by Philip Whalen - Terre en vues
Gaston Roupnel (1871-1946) is recognized today as a Burgundian writer and someone who celebrates Burgundy and its wines. He also maintains the image of a gourmet and many of his writings evoke the table. Professor at the University of Dijon, Burgundian historian with a multiple personality, he bore witness to rural culture with his poetic and evocative language. Deeply human and sensitive, he searched all his life the reasons for the existence of man, his evolution and his communion with the nourishing earth. Liking to tell, listen and write, the history of Burgundy dominates his work. We owe these selected pieces, sometimes unknown, to the American academic Philip Whalen who presents and comments on them. It is to him that we owe the study, classification and discussion of the important archives of Gaston Roupnel. No one knows the man and his work better than him. Professor at Coastal Caroline University, he devotes himself to research on French society during the first half of the 20th century, regional facts, traditions, wine and gastronomy but also tourism, cycling and festivals, as identity vectors .
